The Globalstar SAT-550 portable satellite phone consistently delivers superior voice and data quality throughout Globalstar's extensive maritime and terrestrial coverage areas. It is user-friendly, rugged and compact, making it easy to carry and use at sea or on land. The dual-mode feature enables customers to use the SAT-550 as a cellular phone where GSM 900 (MHz) service is available.*

The handset can be used to send and receive SMS (Short Message Service) communications of up to 160 characters per message. An easy-to-use data kit enables computers or PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) devices to connect to the internet and private networks at speeds up to 9.6 kbps using the SAT-550 phone.

The SAT-550 utilises the Globalstar satellite network.
